On Monday and Tuesday I successfully completed the first 2 days of clinicals. I am different because of it. I now know someone that is 101 years old. She is pretty healthy and can still walk, but she just wants to die. That's really tough to hear.
I fed an elderly lady on Tuesday. She can't talk or really communicate at all, whenever she didn't want the food she just didn't open her mouth. That was also sad.
Everything at the home is not sad, though. Some of the men are lively. haha I got hit on by a 72 year old man that wanted to educate me on "How to be with a man." He said, "It's just science!" That was interesting.
There is a mother and a daughter in the home together. The mom is healthier than the daughter...or at least it appears that way. The daughter is bossy. It's been cool just getting to know the people. At some point I'll have to do some actual work.
The actual work I've done so far...fed a person, moved people from place to place (it's so fun when they tell you to push their wheel chair fast), cleaned up after dinner, helped put people to bed, helped get people into a hoyer/hoist, and observed a shower.
That's that for now. I hope you enjoyed a quick insight into my world of clinicals. There are other experiences I did not mention in here so if you feel so inclined to hear about them, just ask me. Goodnight to all. |
